Obituary for Alice Verla Moore (Turner)

With sadness the family announces the death of Mrs Verla Moore at the age of 87 years, Mrs Moore passed away at Temiskaming Hospital, Thursday, July 23, 2020 with her loving family by her side.


Born December 30, 1932 to the late George-ban Turner and the late Mary-ban McBride, Verla will be remembered for her kindness and wisdom, her love of cooking, sewing and knitting, remembering everyone's birthday and her love of playing euchre with her friends at Ronnoco House. Verla spent her childhood at Bear Island and Waawiiagama, she moved to Temagami to start her family and eventually moved to Cobalt where she spent most of her life until she returned to Temagami where she enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She is remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, auntie, sister, god-mother, and friend. Her presence will dearly be missed.

Verla is predeceased by her parents; her loving husband Edward-ban Moore; her brother Lawrence "Chun" -ban Turner and her grand-daughter Alisha Emily-ban. She is the loving mother of Suzan (Lenny) Heikkila, Marlene (Andre) Moore, Joy (Peter) Cooper, Lynn Moore Cote (late Gerald), Shelly (Lee) Moore-Frappier and Lori (Bob) Moore. Mrs Moore is the cherished grandmother of Chris, Nathan, Aimee, Erik, Ben,Sarah, Jeremy, Alison, Samantha, Julian, Joe, Laura, Jessica, Eddie, Jacob and Jarryd; great-grandmother of twenty three great-grandchildren and great-great grandmother of two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Barbara Laronde, Marion (Fred) Blake, Caroline Pridham, Ronald (Terry) Turner, Marjorie (Eddie) Roy, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family wants to extend their appreciation to her friends Pauline and Joyce for their care and compassion, as well as the Temiskaming and Temagami Home Support teams and Temagami First Nation health services.


In keeping with Mrs Moore's wishes cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. There will not be any visitation or service at this time but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
