Obituary for Delima Marie Dubie (Dubie)

Dubie, Delima Marie
1929 - 2020

It is with sadness that the family of Delima Dubie advises of her death on July 5th 2020 at the Temiskaming Hospital at the young age of 90. Delima was born 17 September 1929 in Sprague Ontario to Wilfred and Bertha Dubie (LaFleur). Delima spent most of her young life in Latchford Ontario and it was there that she met and formed lifelong friendships.

The real joy and the deepest love in Delima’s life were her family and friends and she was always quick to set another place and invite folks in for refreshments or a large sit down meal. Delima was a dynamic woman who loved music, dancing, political discussions, cooking, gardening and crocheting gifts for friends and family. A very spiritual woman she often prayed with neighbors, friends and family and was always quick to remind people that God would take their burdens.

Delima had a long and varied work career. She began as a switchboard operator in 1945 before dial phones, was an ONR long distance operator, and achieved a diploma in Restaurant and Hotel Management from Canadore College in 1973. She took great pleasure from working at many of the local restaurants and motels. Her passion for social justice lead her to work with many political candidates including Tommy Douglas. In recent years she was a tireless advocate for senior’s rights and her letters to the editor in the Temiskaming Speaker brought to attention the plight of older adults facing medical issues and financial hardships.
Delima is pre-deceased by her parents Wilfred and Bertha, brothers Roy, Robert (Eva), and Gerald (Rachel) and her infant son Leonard. Delima leaves behind her brother Alfred (Nancy), her children Sharon Cameron, Sheila Scott (Michael), Robert Ritchie (Monique), Madonna Walker (Michael), 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many friends. She will be remembered with great love as Del, Grandma DD, Auntie Del, Mme Dubie, mom. Rest in peace beautiful blue eyes.

Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. A celebration of life and a mass will take place at a later time. Memorial contributions can be made to the MS Society, Zacks Crib or your favorite charity.
