Obituary for Gary Keith Johnson

Johnson, Gary Keith - It is with sorrow that we announce the death of Gary Johnson on July 6, 2020. He passed suddenly and peacefully at home in Haileybury. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 31 years Carla, his daughters Jenny and Lisa (Cooney), his brother Richard (Sue) and his grandchildren Lucas, Jessica and Michael.

Gary was predeceased by his parents Kieth and Alida, sisters Terry (Lambe) and Lisa (Ouwerkerk). He is survived by his sister-in-law Janice Frey and brother in law Steven Frey (Tammy). He was a beloved Uncle Gary to James, Danny, Carmen, Sherry, Christina, Jason, Erin, Holly and Brent and a Grand Uncle to many.

His big heart, all embracing approach to life and his boisterous laugh endeared him to his family and friends. He passed on smiles to all those he would meet. He was a beloved volunteer member of Northern Star, a favorite of the students on his bus routes and as a local Santa Claus. He will be missed as the annual hunting camp cook, swim mate, joke teller at camp fires (singing Put Another Log on the Fire), great telephone conversationalist with his grandchildren, and constant singer of Joy to the World ( Jeremiah was a bullfrog, was a good friend of mine...) and a co-worker at Stock Transportation. He will be missed and remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, Poppy, brother, and family member.

He always said that when the time came he wanted to be sent off with a marching band playing 'Going on up to the Spirit in the Sky' and fireworks. That pretty well defines him.

The family of the late Gary Johnson will receive family and friends at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on Thursday July 09, 2020 from 6:30 until 9:00pm. When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
