Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" McAndrew

McAndrew, Gerald 'Jerry' - With sorrow the family announces the death of
Mr. Jerry McAndrew of Haileybury at the age of 83 years. Jerry passed away peacefully at the Tri-Town Extendicare with his loving wife of 40 years Rita by his side, on Sunday April 26, 2020.

Jerry was born on April 8, 1937 in Cobalt to the late Red and Mary McAndrew. Many will remember him as an ambulance attendant and funeral director for the Buffam family for many years. A long time Haileybury resident, Jerry enjoyed playing hockey in his younger days and was known for his powerful pitching arm in baseball. After retiring from Buffam funeral home, he and his wife Rita traveled to many destinations. Jerry will also be remembered as a friendly and generous man, helping those in need during the darkest hours of their lives. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His presence will surely be missed.

Jerry is predeceased by his parents as well as his siblings Eb, Lila, Sonny, Polly, Joan and Jack. He is survived by his loving wife Rita Poppleton, his daughters Lynn Poppleton (Louis), Sandy Poppleton (Martin) and Sharon Poppleton. Cherished grandfather to Lauryn, Bradley, Sarah, Sophia and great-grandfather to Alexyn, Benson and Isabella; survived by his sisters Bea Smith, Marjorie Dubeau, Maureen Moore, Donna McLellan as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. A memorial mass will be held at Ste Croix Catholic Church at a later date to be confirmed.
