Obituary for Kathleen Hamilton (Watson)

Kathleen Hamilton (Watson)
Hamilton, Kathleen [nee Watson] - Peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family, Kathleen Lillian Beatrice Hamilton, passed away on October 30, 2019 at the Temiskaming Hospital just shy of her 95th birthday.

Kathleen was born to John & Lillian Watson on November 9, 1924 in Maidstone, Kent, England and grew up in the Wescott/Dorking and Worplesdon area of Surrey, England.

During the War Years she served in the Women’s Land Army. On December 31, 1944 she attended a New Year’s Eve Party in Guildford where she met and fell in love with a young Canadian soldier, Clarence Hamilton. They were married on April 14, 1945 but Clare was advised shortly afterwards that his Regiment was being deployed back to Canada in November. Kathleen and her young daughter Paulina emigrated to Canada in August, 1946 aboard the “RMS Queen Mary” along with many other Canadian War brides. They landed at Pier 21 in Halifax before boarding a train to be reunited with Clare in Toronto.

In 1951, their young family moved to Clare’s hometown of New Liskeard. A place she dearly loved and called home for the next 68 years.

Family meant everything to Kathleen. In addition to her 11 children, 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, she was “Mum Hamilton” to many.

Life was not always easy, but she taught us that through kindness, unconditional love, prayers and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ all things are possible.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, her husband Clare, sons Rodney and Jeffrey and her brother Anthony.

She is survived by her loving children Paulina Oslund-Larocque, Greg Hamilton, Deborah Best (Tony), Tina Jacques (Ray), Craig Hamilton (Vicki), John Hamilton (Sylvie), Kathy Summers, Jamie Hamilton and Derrick Hamilton (Cindy). She is also survived by her beloved sister Barbara Lees of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania.

The family of the late Kathleen Hamilton will receive family and friends at the Temiskaming Pentecostal Church on Friday, November 01, 2019 from 7:00 - 9:00pm. A Legion service will take place in the church at 6:45pm on Friday. The funeral service will take place in the church on Saturday November 02, 2019 at 11:00am. Family and friends are welcome anytime after 10:30am. Pastor Nicholas Kostyc officiating. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Hamilton can be made to the Temiskaming Pentecostal Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund (Branch 33 or Branch 54) or to the Temiskaming Palliative Care Unit.
