Obituary for Bernard "Bernie" Durette

Bernard "Bernie" Durette
Durette, Bernard Edward - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bernard 'Bernie' Edward Durette on July 16, 2019 at Health Sciences North in Sudbury.

Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Edward and the late Helen (nee Mellish) Durette. They moved from Moncton to North Bay when Bernie was a young boy.

Bernie retired in 2006 from Loblaws after a 32 year career as Meat Manager. He also worked the 'G' run in Temagami which he loved doing. Bernie liked golfing, fishing, going on daily walks and spending the winter months in Mexico.

He would always talk about eating those BIG JUICY New Brunswick Alma lobsters (it would have to be at least a 2-4 pounder). It was one of his favorite things to eat. His laugh was infectious, when he laughed everyone around laughed too.

Bernie will be sadly missed by his loving wife Nicky (nee Charette); his sisters Maxine and her husband Tom Mainville, Candace and her husband Brian Jonah, Kathy and her husband Dave Curwin, Veronica and her husband Michel Jardine, Tanya and her husband Bruce Tingley and brothers Brock and his wife Fran Durette and Drake and his wife Lori Durette. Also surviving are Nicky's family Andy Charette, late Colette and her husband Terry Portelance, Julie Samaroo, Cindy and her husband Peter Sirotkin, Donald and his wife Jodi Charette, Henry and his wife Shelly Charette and Lynda Charette. Bernie also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by his parents as well as his infant sister Dilina and his nephew Braden.

In the words of a dear friend "Bernie always looked so healthy and robust with a gentle soul and a big heart.

A special thank you to the North Bay Hospital 3A staff and Health Sciences North Hospital; exceptional care nurses Krista, Kelly and Trina. Also to the many doctors for their compassion.

My best friend and confidant, Bernie will always be with me every minute of every day and will never be forgotten.

At his request there will be no funeral service. Interment will take place at the Whispering Pines Cemetery on Saturday September 21, 2019 at 11:00am. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
